I was dumbfounded. Ryan was recruited to make a cake for an American Heart Association fundraiser at his place of employment, which is involved in health care. Really? A sugar-laden, fake food, death bomb cake to raise money for heart health? My jaw still drops.
This is a reminder of how far America still has to go. Here is the scoop: the American Heart Association says that women should not exceed 6 teaspoons of added sugar a day and men should not exceed 9 because sugar kills. The irony of the cake competition is stunning.
On a related and even more stunning medical note, and this deserves its own post, I recently learned that most MDs are 17 years behind the curve when they finally implement clinical medical research. Given that dietary-related health research has really gained steam in the last couple of years, chances are good that it will be 15 more years before your doc brings simple dietary health interventions to you. Until then, you have to be your own advocate. I have sent more medical literature to folks recently, some of whom are fighting for their lives and whose MDs are unfamiliar with very promising medical research. If you want to do your own research, go to PubMed, the repository for medical research, and search away. I bet you will be amazed by what you find.
It is hard to believe that food is so scary and that MDs tell people not to change. I am helping one family who has a member struggling with a brain tumor. Turns out that a ketogenic diet combined with chemotherapy seem to work well on brain tumors, per the medical research, yet the MDs don’t want him to change his diet. It is only food, for gosh sakes! Far less scary than most medical treatments.
Back to the cake. Ryan and Colson made it, and it was serious hormesis for the guys –they literally started with a hormesis fist bump, which was way too cute. We are grain-free, sugar-free and dairy-free, yet they persevered and didn’t have one taste. For a little more on hormesis and where it can take you, check out The Flinch – it is a fun and quick read.
Here are the pictures of their $45 death bomb creation, and that was with the cheap, extra nasty ingredients! I can’t believe they used Susan Koman Race for the Cure eggs – what a bunch of $@#! that organization is. The guys ended up taking second place in fundraising to a team that created an eight cake monstrosity.
Can you believe this junk? It hasn't been in my house since I became pregnant with Colson, who is now 11 1/2!
And these Komen eggs. What a SCAM that organization is. Gggrrrr!
Getting started. I am thrilled to say that Colson has never had an Oreo.
Talk about challenging yourself. Frosting is heavenly - or at least it used to be.
