A few years ago I learned the devastating effects of sugar. It grows cancer, suppresses the immune system, mutates genes, and basically kills. See The Sugar Bandit - How it Robs Your Health for more information. Sugar became my number one food to avoid.
A couple of years passed, I learned more, and then declared wheat to be the number one enemy, as I discuss in Wheat - Cut That Shit Out! Wheat is an almost guaranteed path to a slow and painful death for Ryan and Colson based on what it does to them and what it did to Ryan’s mom, who died of pancreatic cancer among other health problems (see Wheat, Gluten, Autoimmune and Cancer).
Next came Dr. Stephanie Seneff of MIT. Dr. Seneff has been kind enough to share many thoughts on food and health with me. The most recent discussion involved glyphosate, the primary active ingredient in the herbicide Roundup. See Glyphosate Findings From Dr. Seneff for some compelling and scary information. Now GMOs are the worst, right?
Wrong. My thinking has come full circle after yesterday’s Diane Rehm show on NPR. Diane featured National Geographic author Richard Cohen: Sugar Love: A Not So Sweet Story. I read Richard’s National Geo article, which was fascinating from a historical perspective (it gave me a new take on slavery among other things) and I listened to part of the show, which reminded me about the health attacks of sugar. Hopefully today I will listen to the full podcast. As pointed out on the show and in the article, disease blasted off with increased sugar consumption. Sugar is the root of it all. To make matters worse, so much sugar is now GMO.
If you want a “safer” sweetener (you don’t really need one and your body will show you if you eliminate all sweeteners) a little raw honey goes a long way, but prices are going through the roof because so many bees are dying thanks to the toxins we dump on our crops. Check out National Geographic’s Plight of the Honeybee to learn about the exponential outcome of all the stessors humans bring to honeybees.
All that said, wheat has been morphed by selective breeding and its scariness is magnified. I really hope folks listen to the podcast I link to in Wheat - Cut That Shit Out!
What is a person supposed to do? Play it safe and strong and eliminate sugar, wheat and GMO crops. How do you eliminate GMOs? You could download the Institute for Responsible Technology’s Non-GMO Shopping Guide. A listing of the actual GMO crops can be found at the Non-GMO Project.

Thanks, doc. Been sending people to Archevore a bunch.
So...what is the worst food to you?

I agree with Kurt Harris' hierarchy.
