I should have blogged this earlier, when the 100° temperatures were every freakin’ day, but this is good info in case they return, and…there are always the 90° temps and some physical activity to dehydrate by. If you are my father who golfs in the 100° heat, please use your new computer skills to read this!
For those dehydrated, heat kicked you in the backside athletes, coconut water is said to replenish electrolytes better than any other drink. Even so, I had to research this a little in relation to my hardcore golfing father. It turns out that many coconut water brands don’t have as much sodium as sports drinks. See this New York Times article. I quickly went to the forums and found this from Amy Kabul, Robb Wolf’s associate/nutritionist (see Paleo Atheletes Uncovered):
Great move on the coconut water – you may want to add a pinch or two of salt to it in order to get the sodium that Gatorade and other sports drinks provide, but you are definitely on the right track! Keep it up!
Here is one more good read by Amy if you aren’t dialed into water in general: Water, Water Everywhere.
LOL Laurie, do you really think Dad's computer skills are that advanced????? He knows all about staying hydrated on the golf course and I have already had the talk with him about getting more Vitamin water in him - I have mentioned coconut water before to him because the Philipinos at my mom's nursing home push it to energize the people there, but I will mention it again.
