Tomorrow is Biotechnology Day at the museum. You can learn more here: http://naturalsciences.org/programs-events/biotechnology-day.
I was unable to tackle this sooner because of a family emergency, but I am home now and have less than 24 hours to make an impact. We were successful last year with less than 24 hours left regarding SB 31, and hopefully we can be successful again.
I sent the letter below to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences this morning. Please feel free to use this letter or modify it to reflect your concerns, and please pass it to others who are opposed to GMO foods.
Thank you!
Laura

Here is the sample letter:
Dear Ms. Baird, Ms. Ahmann and the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science:
I am extremely dismayed to learn that Monsanto, Bayer Crop Science and other destructive biotech companies are presenting at the Museum of Natural Science's Biotechnology Day on Saturday, June 30, 2012. My concerns center around two points: this is the Museum of Natural Science and several of the presenters are the antithesis of natural. These presenters are part of the foundational challenges to the survival of the planet and the human race as we know it. Out of respect for the Museum’s other excellent work, I have not recommended that people be present and protest tomorrow’s events, and I urge you to not repeat the mistake of allowing presenters such as those listed below to participate in future events.
These are a sample of presenters to whom I object and urge the Museum to reject tomorrow and at future events:
• Monsanto: "Applications of Biotechnology to Enhance Crop Productivity"
• Medicago: "Plant-Based Vaccines" - Learn the Planting Process!
• BASF: "Plant Science Innovation Yields Results" – Take a look at DNA Extraction Techniques!
• Bayer Crop Science: "Bayer CropScience – Science for a Better Life"
I have faith that you and the museum are aware of the numerous human health, biodiversity, and small farm survivability concerns voiced around the world in relation to the work of Monstanto, Bayer and others. I also believe that you are aware that countries around the world are rejecting the products produced by these companies. If you need additional information, I urge you to visit the Cornucopia Institute’s website, http://www.cornucopia.org/. The Cornucopia Institute, from the United States, is the leader in exposing the destructive activities of corporations such as those listed above.
It is unfathomable that these companies are being promoted by the Museum. This departure from the Museum’s guiding philosophy becomes even more appalling when examining the Museum’s website:
Featuring an array of permanent and special exhibits, live programs and educational films that appeal to audiences of all ages, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences encourages visitors to explore the natural world and their connections to it.
The Piedmont area, where the Museum is located, is one of the hearts of small, sustainable, organic, and biodynamic farming in the United States. Farmers markets in Orange, Durham, Chatham and Wake counties are filled with nutrient-rich, non-genetically modified foods. To allow Monsanto and others to make the case for extinguishing these farmers in favor of their painfully destructive technologies and foods is profoundly disturbing and undermines of the Piedmont’s culture.
Please inform me of the Museum’s intentions in response to the concerns I have raised. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
Sincerely,
