For about five years I kept my hair pretty short, starting at age 40. I did a stint for a couple of years going No ‘Poo and then began to grow my hair. To my immense dismay, my hair was dry and frizzy. I don’t have many vanities, but I like my curls! I blamed No’Poo, stopped it (see No ‘Poo Era is OVER!!!), cut off my hair and tried again. And I have frizziness again, but just on the top of my head. What the heck?
After a little research, I found out that frizzy, dry hair is a common problem after age 40. Rats! My curls – they transitioned without me while my hair was short! With some pretty serious product, I am able to keep the frizzies relatively at bay with what for me is longer hair.
Turns out diet and health are related to the frizzies, along with hair treatment. I haven’t blow dried my hair in almost 20 years, I don’t dye it, and actually I don’t brush it, so not a lot of the usual damage suspects. That leaves my unfiltered, chlorinated shower water – should have taken care of that a long time ago – my former and now reemerging adrenal fatigue, and diet. Diet is dialed in, so that leaves adrenal fatigue.
I got the frizzies trimmed off yesterday and my hair looks pretty good. Colson actually likes it longer even with the frizzies. He asked if it is naturally curly. I said yes and he said I look like Freda in the Peanuts strip. He likes her naturally curly hair and thinks I should celebrate mine, frizzies and all.
Final thought…if you are over 40 and wondering about your hair’s condition, don’t get down when reading all the aging hair articles. Our society is absurd. I am embracing my graying, curly hair. There are too many other things to do besides spend time in the beautician’s chair dumping toxins on your head.
I can't wait to go gray so that I can easily die my hair (with safer dies) in bright colors, like pink and green!

Needed this today! Thanks. I recently donated 10-12" of hair, and of course the woman styled it so nicely, but in the rainy humid weather, I have decided that my hair looks like a dandelion puff!...and started to think about dying it, due to the gray, and using product to tame it. I am a shower-and-go kinda girl...Maybe I am just going to have to find an easier style, once it grows a little bit more.

Hey Maury. I am hearing that some jojoba oil combined with conditioner, per Holistic Moms Network, is helpful too.
Wow - 10 - 12 inches donated - inspiring!

I will try that. It has got to be better than the paste my osn uses....ummmm, maybe he shouldn't be using that either!
