Thirty-two and still going strong (see Borax Crystal Snowflakes). The next batch is starting this morning. Colson has made many shapes, Ryan has made interlocking ones and a Christmas tree, and I have made spirals of different sizes with pencils and dowels.
My Visions glass stock pot can hold 12 or more at a time, and that makes it easy to reheat the solution to use again. Reuse can be tricky, though, because you have to be sure to add enough Borax. My new standard is that there has to be some that doesn’t dissolve into the solution.
I am using quart jars to suspend and make the longer ornaments. My conundrum with these is that when reheating them they can crack, which I don’t understand because people use these to can food, right?
Finally, these ornaments are great fun to view under a microscope. Our math leader, Maria (see Natural Math), would be proud of the math we are finding.
Good stuff. Thank you so so much for sharing your knowledge with world through the Internet. Wonderful blog and post you got here
