I first wrote about the need for women to do Pelvic Floor exercises here: WAP Conference - Organ Prolapse. Scared to heck about having my organs fall out of my body, I put together some classes for my friends and me, taught by a fantastic Feldenkrais instructor: First Organ Prolapse Prevention Class - YAY! I implemented the strengthening lessons with great success for a few months, and then I became a slacker and my progress was lost. Now, however, I am back at it.
Why am I recommitted? Because a woman from my teenage years who is now 47 is having her second surgery to keep her uterus and bladder in her body. Another lovely woman had the surgery once and then a hysterectomy. Yep…their organs were going to FALL OUT. That freaks me out.
So I am doing my exercises again and plan to keep my organs IN. What can you do if you don’t have a Feldenkrais instructor that you like? Do an internet search for pelvic floor exercises, watch a few videos and get going. It is only ten to fifteen minutes of your time a day to keep your organs. And men…apparently you should be doing them too.
