On January 17, 2009, I posted about my No ‘Poo hair care transition: The No ‘Poo Method. It was a great two year ride as long as I had short hair. In August 2010 I began to grow my hair out, and No ‘Poo became an absolute disaster. I have curly hair. I am not vain about many things, but I have some pride in my curls. Ryan says they are the essence of my curly-tude and curly powers. And now the curls were in a dried out, freaked out death spiral. A special conditioner of egg yolk, olive oil and water, soaking for 30 minutes before my shower, would only revive them for a day. Aloe vera gel didn’t help much either. The baking soda was strangling the life out of them.
It was time for strong measures, and I went to a hair stylist for the first time in over two years (my friend Hope was generously cutting my hair during the No ‘Poo years), and they said they had never seen anything like it. Even after the cut I was a frizzy mess. I am only washing every 3 to 4 days and conditioning every day. Yesterday I broke out the big guns and purchased Beautiful Curls Leave-in Conditioner and Beautiful Curls Deep Conditioning Treatment, both of which are Fair for Life Social and FareTrade certified and $22 total. That is a lot of money for someone who has been washing with baking soda and rinsing with apple cider vinegar for two years! Hopefully they will bring the curly powers back quickly. If not, I can always return them.
It is always an adventure, there is always much to appreciate, and I am grateful for it.
