Dr. Mercola’s commentary on an article from Time magazine
is fantastic. Both Time and Dr. Mercola provide great rationale for making the switch to free-range meat, in addition to the arguments about improving
health, to justify the extra cost of grass-fed beef. With extra cost being a concern for my family, I shopped around and found a rancher from whom I buy directly. The cost from my rancher is
$3.30 a pound when I split one quarter of a cow with another family. I do this
several times a year.
Here is Dr. Mercola’s article: The
Ominous Beef Cover Up: The Hidden Truth Behind the Meat on Your Plate.
This is the first paragraph from the Time article, which
is linked to Dr. Mercola’s article:
On a farm in coastal Maine, a barn is going up. Right now
it's little more than a concrete slab and some wooden beams, but when it's
finished, the barn will provide winter shelter for up to six cows and a few
head of sheep. None of this would be remarkable if it weren't for the fact that
the people building the barn are two of the most highly regarded organic-vegetable
farmers in the country: Eliot Coleman wrote the bible of organic farming, The
New Organic Grower, and Barbara Damrosch is the Washington Post's
gardening columnist. At a time when a growing number of environmental activists
are calling for an end to eating meat, this veggie-centric power couple is
beginning to raise it. "Why?" asks Coleman, tromping through the mud
on his way toward a greenhouse bursting with December turnips. "Because I
care about the fate of the planet."
Which farmer do you buy from?

Hi Melisa. I buy from Rainbow Meadows Farms at the State Farmers Market. Their link is on the upper right hand side of my blog. I buy most of my beef, though, from Baldwin Beef, as they are less expensive when you by 1/4 or 1/2 a cow.
