What happens when my newly
turned seven year old has his third seventh birthday party in two weeks? And he
eats two pieces of cake this time? It was super yummy cake from Whole Foods…the
best birthday cake I have eaten! And consider that he doesn’t eat any sugar in
anything, except the occasional bit of organic dark and milk chocolates? He
ends up the next morning, after a night of stomach ache, seriously nauseous,
crying and telling you to throw the rest of his birthday cake away. Ryan woke
up with what felt like a hangover and nausea, and after I grabbed two more
bites of cake before tossing it, I was nauseous too. Fortunately it only lasted
about a half hour for me. Colson, however, tossed his cake once before driving
Ryan to work and twice on the way home from dropping Ryan off.
Pumping that much sugar into
a clean body provides powerful feedback, as our doctor of Oriental medicine
says. Colson has voluntarily sworn off cake.
Totally agree! We're sugar-free too, and when I sneak something with all that sugar, even if from a good place like Whole Foods, I too feel terrible afterwards!
