Yesterday we made our first foray to pick blueberries. I had a modest amount in mind, but when we got to Dr. Young’s Pond Blueberry Farm, the blueberries were so thick that we ended up coming home with just shy of 25 pounds! YIKES! Between the three of us I am sure we ate a couple of more pounds.
What did all of the
blueberries that we ate at the farm mean for Colson, age 6? There is no way for
saying this with certainty, but his energy was through the roof and I think it
was caused by the blueberries. It was almost 90° when we were picking and we
were there for two hours. He drank almost no water, sweated like crazy and ate lots
of blueberries. You would think that he would be whipped, but the opposite was
true.
All the way home he was
talking quickly and non-stop. We ran into the grocery store and he read
everything he saw, and read it quickly. He couldn’t stand still. I mentioned
something to one of the store employees, and he said it was the blueberries and
their B6 vitamins. I know nothing about B6, so I did some research. I learned
that B6 can help burn stored sugar and increase energy, but I could find
nothing significant about blueberries and increased energy in general or in
relation to B6. If anyone else has a similar experience, I would love to know,
as it seems plausible that Colson’s increased activity was blueberry related.
I did learn some new things about
the health benefits of blueberries during my internet search, and here are a
few interesting articles:
