I have blogged over and over about the awfulness of sugar. It kills. But I still indulge every now and then. I truly eat incredibly little of it, but in the last month I had two doses with disastrous Hot Flash results. I was Hot Flash free and suddenly the night sweats were killing me and my sleep was almost non-existent.
First were the jelly beans from Whole Foods. Why I introduced them to my son when he was eight I will never know. Total dumb-ass move. Four weeks ago we had jelly beans for the first time this year. That night and for a week after I had serious nightly hot flashes and sweats. My sleep spiraled out of control for two weeks. The flashes went away and the sleep returned. I did not make the connection between sugar and the flashes.
Two weeks later, on a night when Colson’s friend slept over, Ryan picked up some ice cream (Talenti for me). I ate it for three nights in a row. By night two I began to sweat, by night three the Flashes were full strength. Damn! Sleep was nuked again for about two weeks and that is when it hit me that the sugar was responsible. Freakin-A as my Upper Peninsula friends would say.
A quick search revealed that sugar causes hot flashes. I am so over sugar. It isn’t worth having my sleep nuked, my heart beating irregularly, and all the other horrible things that sugar does and I have written about over and over. Throw sugar into the search bar of my blog and you will see what I mean and how I have succumbed repeatedly. Now, the thought of my formerly favorite Talenti ice cream turns my stomach. I don’t want to feel like crap and I don’t have time for it. This was a stunning example of how every bite I eat determines how I will live.
