The problems associated with long-term sitting have been a threat for Ryan at work. His work is almost solely computer-based and the health impacts associated with sitting jobs such as this have been hitting the headlines hard the last couple of years. Today, Dr. Mercola put out the best article and discussion/podcast I have read on the solution to the sitting problem: Sitting Kills, Moving Heals.
Chris Kresser, one of my favorite podcasters and bloggers, has written an article that provides additional insight and is worth the short read: How Sitting Too Much Is Making Us Sick and Fat -- And What to Do About It.
As for Ryan, he is standing and walking more throughout the day, his computer alarm is set for every 20 minutes so that he at least stands, and he is using his exercise ball. Colson and I have been assigned the task of developing a standing desk with an arm that allows Ryan to adjust the height of his computer and monitors easily so that he can shift between sitting and standing. This will stretch our homeschooling into completely new areas. Wish us luck!
