We learned to clarify butter out of necessity. We could only buy butter a few times a year during the food shortage times, and clarified butter keeps much longer. It's pretty easy, you just have to check on it every few minutes and remove foam. So, it's a perfect background activity for when you are cleaning something in or around the kitchen, or cooking something else.
