Five Mile Run

Last week I continued to ponder why I was running so well and decided this week to see what I could do: Running like the Wind and Vibram Running Shoes. I set a goal of five miles, and this morning I completed five miles with plenty of energy left. I ran 11 minute miles up and down some pretty sizeable hills. My heart, lungs and legs were strong and I could have kept going except for one thing…I needed water! It is a warm, muggy morning - great for being loose, and great for dehydrating.  

Now I wonder how far I can really go if I actually carry some water or ask Ryan and Colson to meet me in 45 minutes so that I can drink up. That question will have to wait awhile because having a distance goal brings a lot of baggage. During today’s run I wondered about the half-way point, how fast I am running, and what my final time will be. That is a lot of new stuff running around my competitive brain and the run was no longer the carefree experience it has been.

This past week I wore my Vibram’s almost every day and sometimes strolled around for hours at a time viewing a museum or picking strawberries. No problems. This week I will incorporate them into my morning walks and see what happens.
