Dr. Joe Mercola has released a powerful article on the
dangers of Agave Nectar: Shocking!
This 'Tequila' Sweetener is Far Worse than High Fructose Corn Syrup.
His
post
is largely based on an article from the Weston A Price foundation’s Spring 2009
publication of Wise Traditions www.westonaprice.org.
What makes Dr. Mercola’s article especially useful is the large-scale context
he provides regarding Agave and other sugars along with guidelines on daily
sugar consumption.
Dr. Mercola’s article has me rethinking the amount of
raw honey I am adding to my family’s kefir breakfast smoothies, as our 3
teaspoon’s per person nears the top of his recommended daily limit of all
sugars. With the amount of fruit that Colson eats, he easily tops the recommendation.
At least that honey is the only added sugar in our diets, with the exception of
honey to sweeten our nut flour baked goods. Fortunately, these are not a daily
or even weekly event.
Our healing journey continues…
Does glucose also produce insulin resistance?

That is a very complicated question best left for each individual and their doctor to tease through.
Here is my quick synopsis for myself only. Given that Type 2 diabetes, for example, is linked to obesity, and too much glucose in processed foods (or natural foods even) can cause increased weight gain, it seems to me that too much glucose in the diet could cause Type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. Here is a website ranking glucose in foods. http://www.nutritiondata.com/foods-000010000000000000000-1.html?
Thanks for the question!
