We returned from our first cub scout camp out, and many of the scouts quickly came down with the flu or a flu-like illness, including Colson. This illness didn't seem as bad as the actual flu my family had a year and a half ago, and we aren't convinced it is the flu. For two days Colson has had a high temperature that comes and goes, some hallucinations associated with the temperature, and a runny, sneezy nose. His energy has been up and down with the symptoms sometimes almost disappearing, only to come back later.
With all of Colson's sneezing, I knew it was only time before I would succumb. My time is the morning of day 2. I woke up with burning eyes and began sneezing. No fever, though. The first thing I did was run to the store for oranges and make a double orange kefir smoothie. It almost immediately stopped our colds last winter. I came home, felt myself circling the drain and quickly made and drank the smoothie. Talk about a fast turnaround. It took about 30 minutes, and I am feeling much better. Note that a smoothie made any other way is not as effective as a double orange smoothie.
I also began
taking chinese herbs for flu a few hours prior to drinking the
smoothie, and there was no apparent improvement. It could be argued
that the herbs are beginning to kick in and the smoothie has nothing to
do with myso be feeling better, or perhaps it is the combination of herbs and smoothie. Or I am just at a point of light illness and about to be knocked down hard. There will be no way to tell for sure the role that the smoothie played, but given my family's phenomenal success with it last year, I am voting for it. It will be interesting to see if I have the same level of sickness as Colson.
