If you get hamburger from the wrong source, it really can
injure and kill. Check out this article in the NY Times: Woman's Shattered
Life Shows Ground Beef Inspection Flaws ...
Hamburger is a strong part of our food culture, so what
can you do it keep it in your diet and keep yourself and your family healthy?
Purchase hamburger directly from a small ranch that raises grass-fed, free
range, antiobitic free, hormone free cattle. The hamburger from these cattle
comes only from these cattle. The rancher usually sends a couple of cows to a local
slaughter house where he or she knows the slaughter house operator and is very
aware of the cleanliness of the facility.
Small, local ranchers have a lot of pride in the food
that they produce. One rancher that I use will never introduce grain into his
cattle’s feed because he is allergic and he knows how terrible it can be for
people, as well as cows. Further, cows aren’t supposed to eat grain; they are
supposed to eat grass. Feeding cattle grain greatly increases e coli and the
chances for illness by the consumer. Here are a few articles:

The second article cites a study showing that cows
switched from grain to grass decrease the e coli in their systems by 1000
times. Let’s face it, you are what you eat, and a healthier cow means a
healthier you.
