The argument could be made that chickens are
smarter than that Tufts doctor I posted about in Fruit
Loops are a “Smart Choice” – Says Who?!
Chickens appear to be more discerning about their food.
Read about it here: Chickens Not Fooled by GM Crops.
If you want to buy healthy, food
affordable, visit your local farmers market and ask, ask, ask your questions.
- Is your food genetically modified? Read this post for a list: List of Genetically Modified Foods.
- Is
your food organic? If it isn’t government certified organic, is it grown in
organic conditions?
- Are
pesticides used?
- Do
you use hormones or antibiotics used when raising your animals?
- Are animals raised free range on pasture as opposed to “free range”
and cooped up in a barn?
Another option is to join a Community Supported
Agriculture Program (CSA). Meat and vegetable CSAs are available. If you don’t
know how to find one, visit Local Harvest
to start your search. A Google search will bring helpful information too.
