I am breaking my own rule
about not discussing politics on my blog, but the amount of complete
misinformation about the health insurance bill being discussed in the U.S. House
of Representatives is appalling. The lies generated and distributed by the insurance
companies are over the top and the fact that many of our elected officials
continue to trumpet those lies really hacks me off.
For those of you who want to
know the truth, compare one of the lie-filled emails generated by very creative
liars to the actual proposed bill and make your own decision. Here is a link to
the bill: http://docs.house.gov/edlabor/AAHCA-BillText-071409.pdf.
Once you have reached your
decision, go ahead and let your elected officials know. You can find them here:
http://www.house.gov/ and http://www.senate.gov. Both pages near the top
have a “Find your Senator/Representative” lookup function where you input your
zip code. Please call or email your officials and share your opinion. It only
takes a few minutes and could affect your life and the life of our country.
Now for my opinion. Give me
the public option! I have spent hours debunking the lies. I
have been doing this for people that I consider to be relatively skeptical, but
who seem to be buying the lies and paying the liars a tip to boot.
If the insurance companies
are allowed to carry the day it becomes even more imperative that people take
charge of their health! Granted, serious accidents and health events happen and
western medical care is necessary, but if Americans preventatively take care of
their health, reliance on the corrupt insurance industry will lessen, in turn
lessening their stranglehold on the health care that we need.
I have personal experiences with several very different versions of medical systems, from current American to Soviet and semi-public European Union's (and before that, individual European countries). Any system can suck rather badly, depending on other factors, for example, local corruption.
