I continue to be amazed at how long it takes me to try some things. For example, my hair has been a bit off for about six months. It doesn't feel dry, but it acts dry. My hair has never been dry. I have been no 'pooing with baking soda and apple cider vinegar for almost a year, and Erin tells me that I need to do a serious condition and quickly rattles off some ideas. Finally, finally, just before I go out town to Michigan, with one of the events being a formal family portrait with the cutest new nephew ever, I try it. Wow, finally some relief. Very simple.
If baking soda has left your hair oddly out of sorts, try mixing this together and applying to your hair:
- 1 egg yolk whipped
- 1 tsp. olive oil
- 3/4 cup water
After washing my scalp with baking soda, I left this concoction on for a couple of minutes in the shower. I have applied it after my last four baking soda washes, and things are back to normal. Erin says that if your hair is too oily, wash with baking soda again, but I haven't had to do that yet. I anticipate going back to an apple cider vinegar wash when I go home in a day, and using the egg yolk recipe as needed.
Another great Erin idea is to use baking soda as a deodorant. Since coming to Michigan I have had a body odor problem due to diet. The deodorant that I brought is useless. I am thinking that I will spend my whole trip with an unsavory smell, alienating everyone around me. Then another piece of Erin wisdom pops into my head. Use baking soda! She saved me again. Baking soda is a great deodorant. Think about it. You use it to prevent smells in your refrigerator and freezer, so it only makes sense that it will work on you too.
Thank you, Erin! Some day I am going to get you to write your own blog and take full credit!
I'll have to try your 'concoction'. I quit using commercial shampoos a few years ago. Have been using a natural body bar with good results.
Apple cider vinegar does not work well as a rinse for my hair. What my hair seems to love as a rinse is kombucha! And my face loves kombucha as a toner.
Blessings...
