Many parents wonder how they are going to convince
their kids to take cod liver oil (CLO) daily. I have spoken to them and emailed
with them. Parents can create a big deal out of nothing when it comes to CLO.
When Colson began taking it when he was four (he is now almost six), we were
one of those worried parents. We didn’t overly show our worry, though, and made
it a matter of fact part of our routine. We made up a goofy song: The Yucky
Blucky song. We sang it every night for about two months before he told us to
stop.
Colson easily took the unflavored CLO. It turns out he
even likes it. The big problem that we built up in our heads turned out to be
nothing. If your kids need to see another kid take CLO, here is the video of
Colson taking it: Colson

If your kids do not joyfully swallow the CLO, we have
the water chaser solution. Ryan and I are not joyful CLO drinkers. We put it in
our mouths and take a few sips of water to wash it away quickly.
Finally, we were prepared to make CLO a casual and
expected daily occurrence because we had another success with Colson. It
involved his first dental appointment with our adult patient dentist when he
turned three. We talked about how going to the dentist is just what you do when
you turn three. No movies, no babying, just everyone being nice, doing their
jobs, and hoping that Colson was going to roll with it. To everyone’s
amazement, including ours, he had a full cleaning. The dentist has been a piece
of honey-sweetened cake ever since.

Drink up!
Just started buying CLO from Green Pastures. Not liking the taste, even with the "cinnamon" flavor. Ugh. My body does seem to like it, but I still can't stand the taste! I'll try the orange flavor when the cinnamon's gone...
