This is a post from our friends in Florida. They are married, both 65-ish, and both had some severe medical events in October. Colson and I visited them in early November and helped them undertake the Food Adventure after they had a phone consultation with Ken Morehead of Oriental Health Solutions www.orientalhealthsolutions.com. We are very close to them and we want them with us for many years to come, so we have a personal stake in their health!
Without further ado, here is Marie’s post:
Can you believe that I just ordered fish heads, 4 pounds of them Yuck!!!! I know I've lost my marbles. But, if it's stock I need it's stock I'll make by golly, fishy or not. This new eating system is amazing. I still feel guilty eating butter oil and cod liver oil after sixty years of "avoiding" fats, although if you look at the size of my ass I clearly have cheated on that count. Sounds good though. Seriously, Lee and I have been eating the new way for a month, I was having achy feelings (old lady syndrome) pretty much all the time, sitting, getting up, walking. Last week I noticed that I haven't had any of that for a couple of weeks. I'm not sure when the achies disappeared, but they are not here anymore. Ken says it's the butter oil.
I actually feel energized. I just wake up, no more of this gee I think I'll watch a movie or just hang out this morning. I didn't realize that I was getting dull witted, but I feel more alert, upbeat, motivated and energized. I must have been depressed and just didn't realize it. It is a little weird to be telling my friends about the eating style. Just another fad, but so many of them are feeling achy and draggy like I was that several are going to try it. We will have a "stock in" to learn to make some of the recipes that you taught Lee and me.
The hardest part is thinking several meals ahead. I have cooked less than any other human I know and couldn't be less interested in the idea of cooking 3 meals a day for the rest of my life, so it's been a challenge. Getting a stockpile of food in the freezer has helped. We now have beef stock, chicken stock and soon will have fish stock. The cabbage sauerkraut is really easy to make and keeps forever, so I can handle that. Getting the almond flour and coconut flour, honey etc. and chucking the bad stuff has made it easy to grab the healthy food since the other doesn't reside here anymore.
The actual food we eat is pretty similar to the food we ate before only it's organic, so I don't feel like I'm being deprived. The most noticeable difference I think is that I really don't crave candy or iced yogurt and Lee is reaching for fruit instead of popsicles. So far I have lost 14 pounds and Lee has lost 25. Lee now is at his goal weight and I have a lot more to lose. I don't really think about the weight loss since I intend to keep eating this way and if the weight comes off all the better.
Well I'm off to see the fish guy so I can get my stock going :)
Thanks again Laura, Ryan and Colson for helping us with our new eating adventure. You guys are really special people and we love you.
