TRADE IT! Don’t eat it. Colson, my five-year old son,
has never had Halloween candy (or almost any other organic candy that isn’t
organic dark chocolate, and now he doesn’t have that). We trade his Halloween candy for a toy that he likes. This year we are making him our version of an
Ugly Doll. Check them out…they are cute www.uglydolls.com!
For those of you with older kids who are wondering how
you are going to pry the candy away, take some inspiration from a friend of
mine. She has one pre-teen and one a bit younger. Her kids are skipping trick-or-treat
for the first time. In place of the candy experience, they are going as a
family to a haunted house. Each child is also going to receive $20 to buy
something they want. With that offer of a trade, all the howling in her house
has stopped.
The Season of Sugar
I was on a call today with Dr. Ken Morehead of Oriental
Health Solutions. He was advising some friends from another state about food
and nutrition. As Ken says, tomorrow starts the season of sugar, and sugar
decimates the body. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years. Immune
systems are going to crash and people are going to feel lousy.
Now is the time to do the right thing and trade that
junk away. Halloween is the time to dress up like a zombie, not feel like one!
We used to eat chocolate and make crafts out of everything else. You can paint with most artificial-colored candy and sculpt with the rest ;-)
